Piney Falls State Natural Area

Piney Falls State Natural Area, located in Grandview, Tennessee, is an 818-acre protected area renowned for its pristine old-growth forest and stunning waterfalls. Designated as a National Natural Landmark, the area showcases towering white pines and eastern hemlocks, some exceeding 100 feet in height, along with diverse flora including tulip poplar, buckeye, and basswood. The centerpiece of the natural area is Upper Piney Falls, an 80-foot waterfall that plunges into a serene pool, followed by the 40-foot Lower Piney Falls. Visitors can access these natural wonders via a moderately challenging 1.7-mile loop trail, which offers scenic views and the unique opportunity to walk behind the upper falls. The trailhead is located approximately one mile down Fire Tower Road (also known as Hillary Road) off State Route 68 in Grandview. The area is open to the public from sunrise to sunset, with amenities including parking and hiking trails; however, camping is not permitted. Leashed pets are welcome, and fishing is allowed.
